1.
Out on your own, the city lights feel brighter And you can tell the night is coming By the people you meet Lacking experience, forever trying hard you came to the city of aimless souls Out in the city's veins, as the night comes alive and you'll begin to live along the city's pulse To protect and to serve Is your deed and your life Feeling that you're made for Cyberlin CHORUS: Welcome to the city, now you're way out of line You may look pretty, but that won't be of any help Down In the Matrix among Black Ice and crazy entities It's a capital you know It's a capital you wish you'll never leave anymore Repeat CHORUS Choice will be yours in time And when your turn has come You know it's the job of your life, worth dying for With your back against the wall You face the fact, you know that you're trapped Repeat CHORUS (2x)
2.
Are you looking for a blues of a man getting by It's still a little early but I'll try to comply If you'd asked me for my story I'd make no sound A wrong beginning with no end or the other way round She comes around the corner when you least expect My feet nailed to the ground I can't react This ain't the stuff dreams are made of it's haunting me at night it's so hard CHORUS: But I'm still breathing Though I can't believe it I am still alive One would think by now I'm too old to be shy I made my choice and took the plunge for good or bad It could've been the best time I ever had I stepped right up to her but no words came out It's killing me but I can't do without CHORUS One of these days will see me coming out another time, another chance, no doubt Just right now it's more than I can take I'm sure she's waiting for the next move I'll make CHORUS
3.
Vampires! 03:52
How come you talk without a sound Thought we're walking on common ground No noise in this room so it may seem Hoping you'll be the one to redeem yourself Redeem yourself, baby It's not a question of good or bad or evil or everything else left unsaid Get a move, regain your social grace or else be gone without a trace This time it seems you crossed the line now you're the one to blame for being left behind I see asking eyes but it all depends Your next life might bring you a second chance
4.
Communication lines are thrown To bridge the gap between your confusion and mine I didn't know this before With your defensive stance How can you live if you don't open up a little more It's the same old song: Denying reality! If you're too scared of getting hurt I'm sorry to say nothing will help at all Though you'll be fine in time; look at me now! With my defences down, your words still ring and make me recall my tale My arms still open wide So much for getting hurt I guess! CHORUS: Whistle in the dark, and carry on Whistle in the dark, there is nothing wrong, no no How can you still live on? How long will you go on? Repeat CHORUS
5.
She said that nothing's over And forever too big a word Can you believe I told her My words went as if unheard If you said I kept things running then that would be a lie I don't want to start condemning It would end up eye for an eye CHORUS: I was fooling myself all along The world is coming down but I will be strong Tell me, should I leave? What makes me think and wonder eyes showing no concern What is the side she's on now? It seems there one's more bridge to burn CHORUS Can you forget what has been, can you forgive what's done? Just when it started seeming that we had hit the spot dead on Repeat CHORUS
6.
Anywhere 03:37
Feel the silence swell, covering all the sounds of the outside world. Witness existence fading out See the lights grow dim, While all the shades of grey take control Until they rule the world CHORUS: Is it good to fear? Is this close too near? I cannot hide anywhere More than I can bear, shadows everywhere Wherever I am, anywhere And you hear a call Movement caught in the corner of your eye In the realm between wake and dream Then you raise to meet a guest of ancient breed You know you're just a pawn You wish there was someone to fight against Repeat CHORUS Is this close too near?
7.
Somehow I'm not surprised It took you nine years to realise Clocks ticking out of time You've jumped the years and now you stand before me and cry You could spend a lifetime's worth Just looking back, but that's all history by now I had to tell you one day your time is up! CHORUS: Don't you ever think that times have changed and distance is a healer Don't you ever see things are the way they are and time has come to step aside I've got to choose the sides drop neutrality and besides It feels like suicide to stand in your way when you're heading down your tracks Destruction's imminent, Your motives still incoherent That's all history by now I had to tell you one day your time is up! Repeat CHORUS
8.
I don't see no fire, when the lights go down with your eyes upon me You don't take me higher than I've been before without you beside me So who you call a a liar? You'll always want more, get your eyes off me now That's another story you know it seems you've had enough and it shows by now CHORUS: A single spark is not enough, this can't be love It needs more than a single spark It gotta feel like running through burning woods Can't you keep your thoughts for you They're all over the place, though I didn't ask you While you're making up your mind Another day is gone and soon I'll be, too Repeat CHORUS No, no no, it's not enough, can't you come up with anything stronger? ‘Cause you know I'm far too old to live with this much longer The woods still stand now if you could avert your gaze and shift your focus Firestarter failed to ignite, don't be amazed there's no future before us Repeat CHORUS
9.
Who Am I? 04:49
Who are you to decide when to go? 'Cause now it's my turn to tell you so Shedding apathy and agony temporarily Can anyone make you smile? Not the one who shared your life for a while Now that I feel less insecure I'll live more than before CHORUS Who am I... where am I? Take a look and see the world still in place It's always gonna be Who am I... but now I have made up my mind Go ahead and pretend I'm to blame Points in time that never show waiting for the fatal blow I know Call it injury or wear, let's just keep it there Who would like to make you stay? Who would understand the words I say When I join the crowd and shout out loud Hear me! Repeat CHORUS Who will notice that you're gone And who's gonna help when you're all alone And when you're drowning in despair No one will care, lady! Repeat CHORUS
10.
Out on your own, the city lights feel brighter And you can tell the night is coming By the people you meet Lacking experience, forever trying hard you came to the city of aimless souls Out in the city's veins, as the night comes alive and you'll begin to live along the city's pulse To protect and to serve Is your deed and your life Feeling that you're made for Cyberlin CHORUS: Welcome to the city, now you're way out of line You may look pretty, but that won't be of any help Down In the Matrix among Black Ice and crazy entities It's a capital you know It's a capital you wish you'll never leave anymore Repeat CHORUS Choice will be yours in time And when your turn has come You know it's the job of your life, worth dying for With your back against the wall You face the fact, you know that you're trapped Repeat CHORUS (2x)

about

"Mixtape" is a 2024 remastered collection of songs originally written and published during 2000-2007, a time very significant to me in terms of life and songwriting, now for the first time collected in one release.

The introductory track "Cyberlin 2024" is a newly recorded version to celebrate the track's original release in 2000. This song marked the beginning of a new era: It was my first digitally recorded song (the original is also featured as track 10) and incidentally also the last one I ever recorded on analog 4-track tape (included as a bonus track on the Cassette release).

credits

released January 9, 2024

All tracks composed, arranged, and performed by Leading Motive, except for (big thanks!) electric guitar by Kari Särkijärvi on "Vampires!" (track 3) and drums by Sami Nurminen on "Whistle in the Dark" (track 4).
